Spectacular tree in Wilderness

 The Woodville big tree is a giant 800+-year-old Outeniqua Yellowwood. It can be found in the indigenous forest in Wilderness. The huge 34-meter-wide crown of the tree is inhabited by bats and birds who feed on its fruit. Bush pigs feed on the fruit that drops to the ground. The tree is 33 metres tall with a trunk circumference of 15 meters.

This is a beautiful picnic area. If you’re looking for the ideal picnic spot under lush trees and close to a “big tree”, this is it. There are plenty of forest tables to choose from. Toilets and water are also available. The site is wheelchair accessible. Bring the children, they’ll have hours of fun playing in the cool forest stream. There is also a short 2km walk You can do, the Woodville Short Walk from this spot, it is an easy 2km walk.

The water in the stream is safe, the dark colour is due to the tannins and humic acids from the leaves on the forest floor.
